Subversion Service Description
The Computer Support Group (CSG) is providing a source control repository for use in support of teaching and research done by members of the departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics and Actuarial Science. The source repository software is subversion
Each repository created will have an owner. The owner of the repository will be responsible for making decisions about access and will be responsible for over quota issues.
All access to subversion will be through the https protocol.
The service supports having users that have DIVMS accounts and users that do not. For users that do not have DIVMS accounts, a special "subversion-only" account will be created with a random password. These passwords/accounts can be managed by the owner of the repository. Each repository owner will conform to the userid standards of the University (namely, non-hawkid user accounts will have an underscore as part of the username).
User Access: determined by repository owner, changes can be made by the repository owner. CSG will also adjust permissions upon request by the repository owner.
Quota: Each repository's quota will be determined when initial set up is performed. If the repository exceeds the quota, more quota can be purchased. If purchasing is not an option, a backup of the repository will be made and the repository will be recreated with no contents. The backup copy of the repository will be given to the repository owner.
Repository: Creation of the repository can be requested via email to request@divms.uiowa.edu. If the repository is for research purposes, there will be a fee of $1/month/Gig of quota. Use for teaching is funded through the college, but may be limited to amount of available storage. Students may request a repository for course use. Student requested repositories will be deleted at the end of the semester. Students may also request a repository for general educational use (e.g. thesis/dissertation) which will be limited to 20MB.
Backup: A full backup of the repository is made nightly if any changes have been made to the repository. Those backups are then added to our regular tape backups. A tar/bzip2 file is available to the repository owner.
