Alpine
In each folder, use the X command to expunge deleted messages.
Apple Mail
In the menu across the top of the display, select "Mailbox."
In the pull-down menu, select "Erase Deleted Messages".
In the side menu, select your Mathematical Sciences account.

In each folder, use the X command to expunge deleted messages.
Thunderbird
Configure Thunderbird to empty the Trash folder and expunge deleted
messages from the Inbox folder on exit.
In the menu across the top of the window, select "Edit."
In the pull-down menu, select "Account Settings."
Under your DIVMS email account, select "Server Settings."
Make sure that "Cleanup (Expunge) Inbox on Exit" and "Empty Trash on
Exit" are both checked.
Click the "OK button.
Empty the Trash folder.
In the menu across the top of the window, select "File".
Click on "Empty Trash".
Compact your folders.
In the menu across the top of the window, select "File" again.
Click on "Compact Folders".
Webmail
In Webmail, you can reduce disk usage by removing deleted messages. The way to remove deleted messages depends on how Webmail is configured.
If Webmail is configured to move deleted messages to Trash:
If you have the "Empty Trash" icon in your menu bar, click on "Empty Trash".
Otherwise, open the Trash folder and click on "Empty Trash folder" to the right, above the list of messages.
If you are not moving deleted messages to Trash:
Click on "Purge Deleted at the right side of the screen, either above or below the list of messages.
