What Mail Quota Includes
Quota on the mail server includes both your Inbox and all your IMAP folders, including mail in your Trash folder, and mail that has been marked deleted but has not been expunged. It does not include anything in your account's home directory.
Stay Under Mail Quota!
It is very important that you keep your mail disk usage under your quota. If your mail disk usage goes over your mail quota, any mail sent to you will not be delivered. Instead, it will bounce back to the sender, with an error message. Therefore, it is in your best interests to keep your mail disk usage under your quota.
How to Reduce Mail Disk Usage
For information about reducing your mail disk usage, see Reducing Mail Disk Usage.
Mail Quota Warnings
If your mail disk usage exceeds 80% of your mail quota, then the mail server will begin sending quota warnings to your mail client. Some mail clients will display these warnings. Until your mail disk usage goes back under 80%, every mail operation that you perform will generate another quota warning. For example, if you use Thunderbird and you compact your folders, each folder is a separate compacting operation, so, you will have a quota warning for each folder. Additionally, each night that you are over 80% of your mail quota, an automatically generated mail message will appear in your mailbox, warning you to decrease your mail disk usage.
