If you are logged into a Linux workstation at the console and are using the default graphical user interface, GNOME, click the Actions icon in your dock and select the "Logout" option. There will be a confirmation dialogue box that appears and select "Logout" and click on the "OK" button or simply press the Return or Enter key.
If you are logged into a Linux virtual text console, simply type exit at a prompt. Also, press and hold the ALT and F7 keys to return the machine to the graphical console mode.
If you are logged in remotely, enter exit at the shell prompt.
