Prerequisites:
These instructions are only necessary if you have to configure the connection yourself. This should only be necessary if the CSG packaged client is not working for you.
- To install the client, you must have permissions to install software on your Windows computer.
Note: All CSG managed machines already have the NoMachine client installed.
Installation Instructions:
- Go to www.nomachine.com/download.php and choose the NX Client for Windows.
- After you have downloaded the installer, double click the file to install it and accept all of the default options.
Launching the application:
- Double click the "NX Client for Windows" icon on your desktop and you'll be presented with the NX Connection Wizard. Click Next

- Enter "CSG Linux Desktop" for the Session field and "linux.divms.uiowa.edu" for the Host field and click Next.

- Change the pulldown from KDE to GNOME and click Next.

- Click Finish

- Enter your DIVMS username in the Login field , enter your DIVMS
password in Password field, and then click Login.

- After clicking Login, you will be prompted to allow nxclient through the firewall. Click "Unblock"

- The first time you connect, you'll be asked to verify the key fingerprint of the NoMachine server.
You are connecting to the correct server if the window shows this RSA fingerprint:
45:61:23:71:74:9f:f7:fd:18:b9:5f:d2:c3:d5:71:b6. If the fingerprint matches, click "Yes".

- After accepting the key, you will be prompted to allow nxssh through the firewall. Click "Unblock"

- You will be connected to a Linux desktop environment on one of the NoMachine servers in Mathematical Sciences. The NoMachine servers are a shared resource. Do NOT run computationally intensive programs on these servers.
Troubleshooting:
When logging in, I get a dialog box that says "Connection error." Why can't I connect?
The NoMachine servers allow 20 seconds to successfully authenticate. If you take too long clicking on dialogs the connection can timeout. Click "Close" on the dialog and try again. If you are still having issues, send an email to request@divms.uiowa.edu for help.
