Prerequisites:
- You must have a computer account in Mathematical Sciences (Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics).
- The Windows account you print from must have the same username as your Mathematical Sciences username.
- Your computer must be on campus.
- Your account on the Windows machine must have the appropriate rights to add a new printer. (If CSG manages your computer, you do not have these rights. Use the request system to have a new printer added.)
Microsoft Vista 32bit Instructions:
- On the Start Menu, select "Control Panel"
- Under "Hardware and Sound", click "Printer"
- Double click "Add Printer"
- Click on the "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer".
- Click on the "The printer that I want isn't listed"
- On the "Select a shared printer by name" Type in the Printer URL of the printer you'd like to use as
specified in the following table:

Once you've typed in the Printer URL of the printer you want to use (as shown above). Please check the table above to find out which driver to use:
- Click on the link in the table and download the driver to your PC.
- Run the executable to extract the driver. This typically brings up the winzip utility and just press "Unzip" and save to the default location of C:\HPLJ4200 Series or equivalent path.
- Click the Next button in the Add Printer windows. When it asks for a printer driver, Click on "Have Disk..." and browse to the location of the extracted driver (c:\HPLJ4200 Series for example), then press OK
- Select the driver that matches the model of the printer (usually the first choice listed) and click "OK".
- On the "Default Printer" page of the wizard, if you'd like this to be your
default printer, select the check box. If you do not want this to be the
default printer, make sure the check box is empty.
- On the "Completing the Add Printer Wizard" page of the wizard, click
"Finish".
- Now that the printer is added, we need to disable Printer Optimizations, otherwise all pages of a multipage document will print on a single sheet of paper. To do this, right click on the printer that was just added and select the "Printer Preferences" menu pick.
- Click on the "Advanced" tab and set the "Advanced Printing Features:" to Disable and then press OK to apply the changes.
- If you have a model capable of duplex printing (see Printer page) you will need to configure it in the printer properties dialog.
- Right click on the newly added printer and choose "Properties"
- For the HP 4200, HP4250, or HP 4650, click on the "Device Settings" tab,
- scroll down to the "Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing)" and set it to "Installed"
- Set "Printer Memory" to 64MB.
- Click "OK"
- Right click on the newly added printer and choose "Properties"
