PLEASE NOTE: The Computer Support Group has provided these instructions as a courtesy to campus Linux users. If you have trouble with these instructions, you'll need to seek other resources for help. We cannot provide help for connecting to the campus wireless network. If you have trouble setting up a wireless connection, you need to contact the Wireless Support Center at the ITS Help Desk.
Check the Requirements
-
You must have a valid Hawk ID. There is no need to store your HawkID username/passwd in the wpa_supplicant.conf file as was previously the case with xsupplicant.
Your laptop must have a wireless interface--either built-in or on a
card--that conforms with the
wireless
access requirements of
Information Technology Services (ITS). At this writing, that means
your wireless interface must be able to authenticate using
Protected Extensible
Authentication
Protocol-Microsoft
Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol version 2
(PEAP-MS-CHAP v2).
Any drivers necessary for your laptop's wireless interface must be
installed. The drivers must provide support for
WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access)

Observations
Our experience was that if you had line-of-sight to an access point you'd likely be able to connect within one or two tries. Otherwise, our ability to connect was hit or miss where the misses were much higher than the hits. Linux support for WPA Enterprise seems to be almost there, but not quite.
