  About Me
I am a fifth year graduate student in the Applied Mathematical and Computational Sciences (AMCS) Program at The University of Iowa. I am currently supported by a VIGRE fellowship, and this summer I am teaching at The University of Iowa’s VIGRE REU while continuing to work toward an expected May 2009 graduation. My research combines hydrogeology and mathematics and is focused on determining subsurface flow parameters given sparse data. I hope you find what you’re looking for on my website; if not, please feel free to contact me at your leisure.

New Math Modeling Course at Iowa
This past year, Ted Wendt and I proposed, designed, and developed a new undergraduate course in applied mathematics at Iowa. With the support of The University of Iowa Department of Mathematics VIGRE grant, we developed a full semester-long curriculum. During the 2007 fall semester, I co-taught this course with Dr. David Stewart and Ted Wendt. The course, Introduction to Applied Mathematics Research, is aimed at students with a calculus background and an interest in formulating and applying mathematical models. This course is listed as 22M:096 and will next be offered in the spring semester of 2009. More information is available here.

Mathematical Contest in Modeling - a new UI tradition
This past February, Ted Wendt and I initiated University of Iowa participation in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) run by COMAP. I supervised a group of seven graduate students that, in addition to serving as team advisors, also oversaw logistical operations at the local level for all University of Iowa teams involved. VIGRE support allowed 15 undergraduate students (five teams) to participate. Four teams received honorable mention designations and one team received a meritorious award. In addition to preparing teams to compete in February 2009, I am currently developing and organizing a 24-hour, MCM-like contest that will take place on The University of Iowa campus this fall. More information can be found here.
